Materials
Book: Pod book: seed pods, seed specimens, hand made paper, yarn (cotton/wool/nylon), kevlar thread, copper wire, boiled cotton, dyes.
Book: paper (hand made + commercially made), digital ink, watercolor, colored pencil, hot stamping foil.
Box: book board, book cloth, ink, paper (hand made + commercially made), seed pod, seed specimens, mica, cast acrylic, hot stamping foil, laser toner, acrylic.
Seeds 1 is a book structure with elongated and halved seed pods covers and woven fiber page panels. I inherited some large seed pods from my great Aunt Ruth in 1998, along with many other treasures from the natural world. Because Ruth was an inspiration and role model for me, it's important to me to make use of these inherited treasures in ways that preserve their enticing characteristics. It took me a while to land on woven pages for the 'text block' of this book and was a far bigger challenge than I anticipated, especially since I first had to learn the basics of weaving.
It is housed in a drop spine box that includes a small book featuring watercolors of seed specimens. Both book and box tray include seed specimens.

Seeds 1 is the first of an ongoing series of unique book works.
The following materials were used in the construction of Seeds 1:
Pod book: seed pods, seed specimens, handmade paper, yarn cotton/wool/nylon), kevlar thread, copper wire, boiled cotton, dyes.

Designed and crafted in a studio perched on the traditional lands of the Arapahoe, Cheyenne, Ute and Oglala Sioux.
