Materials
Book: wool blend yarn, dyed cotton, Powertex, hand made paper, cotton thread, plant specimens, walnut veneer, foil, felted and botanically printed wool
Box: book board, book cloth, lokta paper, cast acrylic, handmade paper, foil
Four woven fiber pages with fabric extensions attached to Cave Paper stubs carry bits of forest duff and hand embroidered text on handmade paper. Sewn across the spine and bound in a simplified binding hybrid.
Among my favorite days are those spent wandering around pine forests in the Colorado Rockies. Off trail, and especially around trees, the layers of forest floor debris (duff) are soft and deep, evidence of ongoing life cycles that include both nurturing trees and igniting fires for massive forest cleanses.
Housed in a custom drop spine box with plant specimens under cast acrylic as tray base.
